here's some cover songs i've done. super funnn...
who doesn't love Katy Perry? this song was too epic not to cover. this was the first song that i sang to and publicly released. for me, this was the start toward a new direction in music.
who would have thought we'd all be beliebers? you can't argue with the fact this song is catchy. i had so much fun with this cover. i never thought i'd be covering beiber...but hey, why not?
zedd is the man. and this song is so epic. it's definitely been my favorite so far. i totally lost my voice after recording that part where i scream at the end...but it was so worth it.
who doesn't love twenty one pilots? i mean, they're kind of awesome. and this song? it's so fun. i really had a lot of fun doing it. hope you enjoy it as much as i did making it!
i started writing music when i was thirteen years old. i had no idea what i was doing. (still don't.) but i wrote anyways. i would write music to the books i would read. in my head, they were like a films without music...while reading i would imagine scores...and then write them. a lot of the original music i wrote were inspired off of books. my goal was to be a film composer. the playlist to the right is a compilation of some of that music.
this was really an experiment for me. i just wanted to see if i could do it. i was eighteen when i wrote and released this album. i look back and kind of laugh about it now...it's kind of cheesy. (and by kind of, i mean really cheesy.) but if anything, i'm proud of it. this was a huge step for me. i wanted to write and release an album of epic music...and that's what i did. fortunately or unfortunately, this album is still the most popular of my music. the only reason i called it "epic music" is so that anyone who searches "epic music" on itunes would find it...mission accomplished.
of course, i had to try it again. i'd learned from my mistakes and i wanted to do it again, except better. it took me a lot longer to write, because at the time, i was also in school writing other music. of course, i look back and have things i would change...but this album is probably my favorite that i have released. my favorite track on it is mutations. while writing that track, i really felt like i had a breakthrough as a writer. i was able to let go of preconceived formulas, and just write.
this album was so much fun. i was sick of writing epic music. i had a full summer in between my bachelors and masters to just write music. so...i did something i'd never done before - i wrote ambient music. this music was inspired by people constantly telling me, "jon, i listen to epic music while i work/read/study, and it's so great." so, i wanted to make an album specifically for that purpose. this album is intended to act as a musical white noise to enhance (not distract) you from what you're doing. and it's four and a half hours long. suhweeet.....
i wonder if anyone actually goes to my website? specifically, i wonder if anyone is actually reading this description? if you are, good for you. see, here's the thing. i want to write epic music iii. but i don't have time. why? because i'm trying to make pop music right now. you feel me? one of these days, i'm going to write it. and it's going to be awesome. but that's not today.
i knew james harris (jake) from high school. he has a killer voice. we decided to cover some songs together. our cover of sweater weather has five millions plays on spotify (whut???) and say something is causing tears all over the world. producing jake was so much fun, and i'm so pumped to see where he goes in the future. it's gonna be epic!
isaac is one of those dudes who says he raps, and you're like, "uh huh, sure." and then he does and you're like, "what the heck...that was actually amazing." isaac is an incredible dude, has a heart of gold, and wants to change the world, one day at a time. we did this single back in 2015. some day in the distant future, we're going to collab again and release some sick epic music. i don't know when. but when we do, i'll be sure to let you know.
UNrefined is a dream-child of mine. basically, it's epic worship music. i write the songs, find the vocalists, and produce the tracks. if you want to learn more about UNrefined, you should click on this link and go to the website. UNrefined is a non-profit, so i'll be working on it part time. i'm excited to even be able to write and produce music that has the potential to bring people closer to GOD. we'll see what happens!
